Biometrics for Remote Desktop is a reliable software solution that allows to redirect locally plugged biometric sensors, such as fingerprint scanners, vein scanners or signature pads, to remote desktop session.

In standard situations, using biometric devices in a remote desktop environment is problematic or even impossible. Normally you would have to use some complex workarounds.

Biometrics for Remote Desktop allows to redirect biometric scanners to remote Windows session, with a single mouse click.

How it works

Biometrics for Remote Desktop is extremely easy to use. The solution consists of two parts: Workstation and Server. The Workstation part should be installed on the local computer and the Server part goes to the remote server you are logging to.

As soon as both parts are installed, no additional configuring is required. Every time you login to remote session, biometric devices are transferred automatically. So, any software that requires fingerprint or biometrics sensor input being launched in remote desktop sessions can work as if the scanner was plugged directly to the remote side.

Driver-less solution

USB device drivers are not required on the remote side. It’s really important since the most of USB biometrics scanners are not designed to work in Terminal Server environment. And usually there are no drivers for Windows Server.

Using Biometrics for Remote Desktop makes it possible to use fingerprint, singature or other biometrics in Terminal Server environment even without having USB device drivers.


In case of multi-user environment (Windows Server OS), if there is more than one user logged in to the remote side, each biometrics scanner is isolated within its individual session. So you don't need to worry that somebody else will get access to sensitive data. Each user can see only own biometrics devices within the remote session, so you don't need to scroll through the list of devices of other users to find yours.

Various vendors support

The most popular biometric sensors, such as fingerprint readers, signature pads or vein scanners, are supported. In the current version a wide list of devices produced by Futronic, 3M Cogent, Safran, SecuGen, Nitgen and Fujitsu can be redirected to remote desktop session.

Remote desktop protocols

Biometrics for Remote Desktop supports different remote desktop protocols including Microsoft RDP, Citrix ICA, Amazon WSP, NICE DCV, VMware Blast, and Teradici PCoIP. It does not matter what environment is used (Microsoft Azure, Windows 365, Remote Desktop Services, Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops, VMware Horizon, Amazon Workspaces and others). Any compatible Client software is used for accessing remote side.

Azure Virtual Desktop compatible

Biometrics for Remote Desktop, as well as other FabulaTech solutions, is fully compatible with Azure Virtual Desktop and makes it possible to access local biometric scanners from applications running in Windows Virtual Desktop.

Double hop session support

You can connect from your workstation to remote Server 1. And then initiate a connection to another Server 2 session from Server 1. The device will be accessible on Server 2 without any additional configurations.

Works with different environments

It doesn't matter what kind of environment is used. The solution works fine with both multi-user and single-user environments. It’s possible to use PCs or virtual machines (VMware, Hyper-V, Citrix XenApp, VirtualBox or any other).

Low latency

Biometrics for Remote Desktop redirects biometric information to remote side with low-latency. It’s also not sensitive to high-latency and slow network connections. Everything works like the device was plugged directly.

If you are looking for solution for Linux you have already found it. Biometrics for Remote Desktop works perfectly in most distributions of Linux operating system. It includes plugins for FreeRDP, Citrix Receiver and VMware Horizon Client.
